EDITORIAL INFORMATION AND GUIDELINES
The following guidelines provide a basic framework for submitting articles to Link Magazine on a variety of topics. Members of the Association of BC Land Surveyors are welcome to submit articles or article ideas for consideration; however please note that authors should first contact the Editor well in advance to discuss the specifics of proposals and deadlines.
Generally, Link Magazine articles are intended to highlight various aspects of land surveying practice and the regulatory mandate of the Association of BC Land Surveyors. Articles should be interesting, educational, readable, well organized, and of relevance to Link Magazine’s primary readership: British Columbia land surveyors. Feature articles typically range from 1,200 to 1,500 words long and are accompanied by photos, and/or diagrams to enhance visual appeal and impact.
Land surveying articles should be written or co-written by practising land surveyors and be non-promotional and understandable by members as well as non-members. Articles should also include sufficient background information for readers unfamiliar with the topic.
Articles of a more general nature (e.g., business, legal, or ethical issues) written by non-members, or those concerning other topics of interest and relevance to BC land surveyors, should meet the above requirements and be clearly targeted to Link Magazine‘s readership.
Should the article, following evaluation, be considered a candidate for publication, it will be edited as necessary for clarity, readability, organization, and consistency with Link Magazine’s editorial style and format. Edited articles will be normally forwarded to the author in advance of publication for the purpose of confirming the text’s factual accuracy.
Photos and Illustrations
Visual appeal is an important element of Link Magazine. Photos and illustrations to accompany articles are encouraged, and captions are required. Potential cover photos are also encouraged.
Digital images should be at 300 dpi resolution and a minimum size of 5″ x 7″ in tif or .jpg format. Files should be sent in their native format and not embedded in document files.
Submissions to Link Magazine must be made by email no later than March 1st, July 1st, and November 1st in MS Word format. By submitting material to Link Magazine, you grant the Association of BC Land Surveyors a royalty-free, worldwide license to publish the material; and you warrant that you have the authority to grant such rights and have obtained waivers of all associated moral rights. Link Magazine reserves the right to edit any material for accuracy, clarity, length, and conformity with our editorial guidelines, and is under no obligation to publish any or all submissions or any portion thereof.
